Hybrid apps, where the UI is written using web technology hosted in a webview inside a native app, is a well known architectural pattern for building cross platform mobile apps. But did you know that some of your favourite desktop apps, such as Visual Studio Code, Atom and Slack, are written using a similar approach?
This presentation will give you an introduction to Electron, a platform from the Atom team at GitHub for building cross platform desktop apps using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The presentation will demonstrate a real-world app that uses non-browser functionality such as accessing the file system, SQLite databases and integrating with the host OS shell (Windows and Mac OS X). The presentation will also cover how the app can be packaged and distributed on the App Store or Windows Store.
The presentation will feature videos and pictures of sharks!

How would you debug today’s complex Web Applications with lots of JavaScript, lots of asynchronous calls and probably different technologies on client and server side? This talk focuses on Chrome Developer Tools and Fiddler, two tools you should most definitely add to your developer’s tool belt!
How can these tools be used to debug various scenarios around Web Application development? No matter if you write more traditional client/server style or single page JavaScript apps, this talk has something for you. What are Chrome Dev Tools and why you should care? What is Fiddler and how can I leverage it in my development? How can I inspect with Fiddler? How can Fiddler act as my client? And as my server? The talk answers these and other similar questions concerning Web Application debugging.

In my opinion, Azure Websites is one of the top services that Microsoft added to their cloud. It doesn’t matter if you are a Node.JS, PHP, ASP.NET developer, with Azure Websites you get a great runtime environment for your products. In this demo-only session, Azure MVP Rainer Stropek introduces you to Azure Websites using multiple examples. Rainer starts with the basics: Just some HTML- and JavaScript files. Next, he extends the sample using a Node.JS backend. You will learn how to deploy such a solution using Git. Finally, Rainer shows how to use C#, ASP.NET, and Visual Studio to implement and deploy more advanced backend logic.
